My Kind of Food - Teochew Style

Posted by Picasa
Mong Hin, they serve great Teochew fare. The Teochews don't change their menu. I had the same menu for twenty years since they were in business at Ellenborough Market in the 1980s.

Mong Hin moved a number of times, first from Ellenborough Market to make way for the Clarke Quay Station to Outram, to ..... and now at KeyPoint at Jalan Sultan.

Try the Mong Hing Sambal Crayfish - crayfish done delicately stir fried with sambal and onions. Crispy succulent flesh with crunchy spicy onions.

It goes well with white rice. Another must have is the steamed pomfret done ala Teochew style. The Teochews are known for this dish. Promfret steamed in chicken stock with a slab of lard, slices of preserved salted mustard, mushrooms, tomatoes, ginger and a sour plum. Don't dig into the flesh first, enjoy the clear stock.

Don't forget the Teochew braised goose, yam paste and gingko nuts, Teochew style cold crab, white chive with fresh shrimps. You can get most of these dishes for about $200 for a table of ten. Amazing value for money.
